With most people trying to cut back on expenses during this tough economic time, vacations are being planned closer to home. If you want to plan a wonderful vacation, get out of the country, and still save money, Canada is a great destination to consider.
One June 1, 2009 the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative will go into effect. This means that anyone over the age of 16 must present a valid passport or a NEXUS card to re-enter the United States by either land or sea. Until that time, you can travel to Canada and return to the United States with just a government issued picture ID and proof of citizenship such as a birth certificate. Make sure your travel plans include obtaining the proper travel documents for the dates that you are planning your vacation to avoid problems re-entering the US.
Canada is a diverse country with something to offer everyone’s tastes and hobbies. There are several beautiful cities such as Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec, or Toronto with world class restaurants and entertainment. In addition to the urban Canada, there are many beautiful rural and wilderness areas that appeal to the avid outdoors men. Canada is also famous for its sports, such as ice hockey, Canadian football, and baseball. Visit during one of Canada’s many national festivals, such as Calgary Winterfest, Annual Festival du Voyageur, or Quebec City Winter Carnival for a truly Canadian experience. Whatever you’re looking for in a wonderful vacation experience, you can find it in Canada.
