Yellowstone National Park Camping

Yellowstone National Park, designated the world's first national park in 1872, reaches into Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. Although there are many ways to experience this incredible landscape, Yellowstone National Park camping truly allows visitors to get closer to nature. There are many opportunities for camping in the park, including reserved camping and first-come first served options.

Yellowstone National Park camping reservations help ensure a spot during a designated time period. Reservations are especially useful during the peak summer season from early July to late August. These campsites include more traditional campsites with room for your tent and gear, as well as providing RV camping. Those who plan to take an RV over 30 feet to Yellowstone are encouraged to make reservations early due to a limited number of campsites available to accommodate these vehicles. If this is your preference, check out Flagg Ranch, Fishing Bridge RV Park, West Yellowstone, and Gardiner. If you're traveling on a smaller scale, Bridge Bay, Canyon, Grant Village, and Madison campgrounds will be more than sufficient. Call 1-866-GEYSERLAND, or 1-866-439-7375, to make reservations.

For those who prefer a less structured experience for Yellowstone National Park camping, there are many campsites that are available on a first-come, first served basis. These campsites fill early in the day, and they may be at full capacity as early as 11 a.m. Because of this, it's still advised to be an early bird. If this is more your style, look into Indian Creek, Lewis Lake, Mammoth, Norris, Pebble Creek, Slough Creek, and Tower Fall Campgrounds.

There are other things to consider when camping in Yellowstone National Park. For starters, overnight camping is not permitted except in these designated campgrounds. Fire rings are provided in select locations, and these are the only locations where fire is permitted. Additionally, be sure to be informed regarding fire restrictions in Yellowstone during your visit.

Yellowstone National Park camping has become an American tradition. If the above campgrounds do not fit your needs, there are also many campgrounds that surround the Yellowstone area.
